Zentangle Egret

Tangle Egret

Pining for warmth!

It is going to be April in two days.  Normally by now the early snow drops have been blooming for a few weeks and the crocuses have started blooming; the daffodils have bulbs and are almost ready to burst open.  Today it is gloomy, gray, and 49 degrees Fahrenheit, which feels warm in comparison.  Well, almost warm and would actually feel warm if the sun was shining.  For weeks quite a few residence of Michigan, including me, have been walking around in light jackets, heavier cardigans, and sometimes no jackets at all in temperatures ranging in the 30’s.  I finally understand why people who live in the northern most states and Canada walk around without a coat on in what I use to think was cold weather!  Namaste!

To continue to cheer myself up and to continue to resist seasonal affective disorder (SAD), I tangled a photo of an egret I took in Florida in the spring of 2008.  It reminds me of warmth, sunshine, salty air, tropical bird calls, and the earthy smell that comes from a tropical forest.

Zentangle Poodle

Tangle Animoodle Poodle – Monty Dog

In Memory of My Late Dog Monty

The weather has been very fickle; teasing us with its tantalizing glimpses of warmth, and then turning its icy cold, snowy shoulder on us. On the health side, I recovered from a 2 1/2 week cold, was healthy for three whole days, and then I got hit with a second nasty cold. On the positive side, I took five people to see "Kings of Leon" during one of those healthy days, and having to stay indoors to nurse myself back to health has given me time to Tangle.

This Tangle is in memory of my late standard poodle, Monty. He was very tall, (people referred to him as my poodle pony), all black with a touch of grey as he aged. He sat with his front legs crossed all the time, loved to eat anything that needed to be surgically removed from either is esophagus or stomach thus costing me a bloody fortune, and was extremely bullheaded. Monty was one of the best dogs I ever had the honor of owning! He was funny, friendly, sweet, and all-around lovable. I so loved him.

A Great Way to Heal the Blues

This week January's greatest snow fall, my very long driveway that needs to be constantly cleared, a significant lack of Vitamin D, and a week long cold has taken a tool on my normally good mood and positive outlook on life.  My darling husband suggested a draw!  He's so brilliant.  This is the result.  I recommend tangling to anyone needing to be rescured for their blues.

Zentangle Woman with Antlers

Tangle Woman with Antlers

The Tangle Therapy Continues

Since I last posted, my father has passed, I've been to England and back, and I have settled back into a normal routine.  My normal routine normally prevents me from doing any artwork, so now I have to carve out time.  Normally that time is the first to go, but I won't let the happen this time.  I say that now!

This next drawing just appeared in my minds eye, and she was so beautiful I needed to share her. I tried to scan this image as I have done the others, but her skin tone doesn't come through. My scanner has a hard time picking up graphite, so a bit blurry is better than not seeing the skin tone.

I struggled to get her face right, so I went to google immages and looked at several profiles of women who came close enough to what my mind's eye saw.  Her face is inspired by two profies, as I combined their features a bit and added my own touches.  The antlers were inspired from an immage of a buck/stag so I could get the right perspective.

Also, I would like to thank every fabulous person who has contributed zentangle patterns to the world.  I have not come up with any unique ones of my own to date, but look forward to the day I can contribute as well!

Zentangle Wolf

Tangle Wolf

More Tangle Therapy

I made it through another week spending time at Hospice with my father.  This week I tangled a wolf for therapy. Technically, I am not doing Zentangle when I am using patterns to create my animals. Zentangle is about meditation and an unplanned design. I am obviously planning... However, despite the deliberate strings forming animals, and using patterns found on may of the Zentangle pattern websites and books, I still find it meditative and recommend it to anyone. I can't say enough about how it is helping me get through a very tough time.

Please also note that my wolf's ears are tattered, in honor of my recue greyhound Storm. Both his ears are tattered and torn in the same way.

Zentangle Eagle

Tangle Eagle - Therapy

About two weeks ago I had a very vivid dream in which I was looking through a book on eagles.  One page stood out that had a sketched eagle carrying its baby in its talons.  Yes, I know that eagles do not carry their babies like a bat, but in my dream it did.... I decided to tangle it while sitting with my father in Hospice over this past week.  I found it very therapeutic.
